Philosophy and Paleontology Online Talk (April 2)

Want to hear about the mutual benefits to be had from philosophical engagement with paleontology (and paleontological engagement with philosophy)? Come to the next PopPaleo session, to begin at 12:00 Eastern Time, April 2, 2025. [Correction: earlier I had written March 26— sorry!]

Why would philosophers care about paleontology? What would paleontologists care about philosophy? What does life’s deep past have to teach us about life’s present and future? In this round table three philosophers will introduce and discuss the various connections between philosophy and paleontology.

Adrian Currie will discuss how focusing on paleontology transforms the philosophy of science: undercutting long-held assumptions and introducing new ideas.

Andra Meneganzin will demonstrate how philosophical tools and perspectives can fruitfully intervene into paleontological debates.

Derek Turner will reflect on how paleontological ideas matter for contemporary issues in environmental philosophy.
